What is the Entourage Effect?

Feb 25, 2020 What is the Entourage Effect?

First introduced in 1998 by Shimon Ben-Shabat, along with noted cannabis researcher Raphael Mechoulam, the term “entourage effect” was used to to represent a potential enhancing effect that takes place when a full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes is consumed through whole plant cannabis oils.

In addition to the key cannabinoids like THC and CBD, full spectrum–also known as whole plant–cannabis oil contains over 400 active compounds in trace levels or higher that interact with your body via the endocannabinoid system.

Besides the major cannabinoids (THC and CBD), cannabis oils derived from different hemp and marijuana plants may also contain minor trace cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA).

With the entourage effect in mind, when shopping for CBD hemp oil products, you will be looking specifically for those made with full spectrum hemp oil since full spectrum CBD oil products provide all the same cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and nutrients naturally found in the hemp plant.
