TSA Updates Guidelines to Permit Some CBD Products on Flights

Jun 2, 2019 TSA Updates Guidelines to Permit Some CBD Products on Flights

CBD is officially one step closer to flying the friendly skies without disruption. Over Memorial Day weekend, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) updated their website to formally announce that air travelers are now permitted to bring some cannabis-derived products aboard planes in both carry-on and checked luggage. The amendment gives passengers the go-ahead to carry hemp-derived CBD products and FDA-approved cannabis-derived medical products on flights.

Confusion regarding the status of a product which contains CBD oil for children who experience seizures from pediatric epilepsy – is what initially prompted the TSA to reexamine their policies related to CBD.

The updated section aims to clarify that while the TSA agents “do not search for marijuana and other illegal drugs,” if they find any illegal substances they “will refer the matter to law enforcement” – regardless of whether or not the products are discovered in a state where they are legal – since TSA is a federal agency.

As long as travelers are carrying CBD in forms that adhere to the regulations outlined in the Farm bill, the TSA will allow you to board the plane with it.
