If you or someone you know struggles to get to sleep, this week we are sharing our best tips for improving your sleep.


Feeling tired? Take a nap

Fighting tiredness can be disruptive for you and for those around you. Don’t rely on caffeine or energy drinks as a pick-me-up – this may give you a lift in the short term but could affect your sleep patterns in the long term. Give yourself permission to take a 20-30 minute nap.  Any longer than that may leave you feeling disorientated and impact on your sleep later on.


Get physical

A lack of physical exercise can make it difficult to fall asleep – although you may not feel like it right now, regular exercise will make you feel less tired in the long run.  Even a single 15-minute walk can give you an energy boost.


Eat well

To keep your energy levels up during the day, a good way to do this is eat regular means and healthy snacks every 3 to 4 hours, instead of large meals less often. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and large meals close to your bedtime.


Reduce stress

Stress uses up a lot of energy – add some relaxing activities into your daily routine like yoga, listening to music, reading a book, spending time with friends or go for a walk.
