Be a shining light this Purple Day!
Did you know that today is Purple
Day? A day where individuals, families, charities, communities and businesses
around the world actively raise awareness of epilepsy. More people
live with epilepsy than with autism spectrum disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple
sclerosis and cerebral palsy – combined.
Here at Kannaway, we take Social Responsibility very seriously – in fact it is one of our core values. We are proud to support the Por Grace Foundation, who provide invaluable support to sick children with serious medical conditions, including epilepsy.
The foundation supports
children just like 3-year old Allison from Monterrey, Mexico. She
has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and needs a specialized wheelchair to help her
get around and do the things she enjoys. She likes to play with toy cubes and
balls and watch videos on TV.
DID YOU KNOW
….
More people
live with epilepsy than with autism spectrum disorders, Parkinson’s disease,
multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy – combined. Epilepsy can occur as a single condition or
may be seen with other conditions affecting the brain, such as cerebral palsy,
intellectual disability, autism, Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain
injury.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder
of the central nervous system, specifically of the brain. It is characterized
by the tendency to have recurrent seizures.
A person would be diagnosed with
epilepsy if they have at least two unprovoked (or reflex) seizures, or one
unprovoked (or reflex) seizure and are very likely to have another or diagnosed
with an epilepsy syndrome.
Epilepsy is a chronic medical problem
that for many people can be successfully treated. Unfortunately, treatment
doesn't work for everyone. There is still an urgent need for more research,
better treatments, and a cure.
HOW TO DONATE
You can easily make a donation to the
